CHESHIRE TORTOISE DAY: Saturday 19th May 2012

This will be the eleventh Tortoise Day event.  The day is organised by the Cheshire Group of the British Chelonia Group (BCG).  The BCG promotes the welfare, care and conservation of tortoises, terrapins and turtles worldwide.

The venue is The Village Hall, Wilmslow Old Road, Mottram St. Andrew (near Alderley Edge), Cheshire SK10  4QP.  10 am – 4 pm.  Free parking and wheelchair access available. Entrance charge £2.  Free for children.

The aim of the day is to enable tortoise enthusiasts to meet and share information.  Experts will be on hand to offer help and advice.  Everyone welcome: tortoise owners, reptile professionals and vets.  If you do not own a tortoise, there is always plenty to entertain the family with children’s activities, raffle and tombola.  The British Cactus & Succulent Society (Macclesfield Branch) will have cacti for sale and offer hints and tips on growing these fascinating plants.  Other stands will sell plants, fossils and minerals from Shark Teeth Ltd, quality hand crafted artwork and gifts, plus tortoise related items.  On display will be Dookies ferret rescue, tortoise food identification and  live tortoise species (not for sale).  Chelonia literature will be available plus free information and caresheets.  The Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic, Ashleigh Veterinary Centre in Manchester will be participating throughout the event.  Light  refreshments available all day.  In the afternoon there will be a special digital presentation ‘Caring for your Tortoise’.  Funds go towards chelonian  conservation projects worldwide.
