It has recently turned out COLD here in Houston (30 F. at night, with a high of 45 F. during the day) and I do not feel comfortable allowing my "Molly" out for her daily foraging, fearing it might be too cold for her even for just a little while. She is currently housed in a Large terrarium due to her small size and the huge fire-ant problem we have here in Houston. Anything on the ground is taken apart by the fire-ants and eaten, a little tort would have little chance at fighting those buggers off. So, my question is: What can I do in her enclosure as enrichment for her? I rearrange her enclosure daily and feed her a variety of foods, I was just wondering what kind of fun things I could give her to liven up her indoor living until summer? Thanks! Beautiful black-brown eyes but a bit dehydrated. I thought she was in big trouble until I saw your photos of other hinge-backs. Have had only North American box turtles and aligator snappers and small water turtles in the past. They all have heavy very fat hind legs. Rosa's hind legs are quite delicate by comparison and I was afraid she had a problem or was ill. Her legs are exactly like the legs of the hinge-backs in your photos. Infact, my tortiose is sitting right here on my desk with me as I type. I named him Charlie but after viewing your site I think he is a girl. Her name is still Charlie though. The pictures of the turtle from undreneath was very helpful. Can you tell me if it is OK for me to give her a bath? I rinse her off in the sink. Then i towel her dry and put her back in her warm tank. However, when im rinsing her she sometimes does doody. Is that bad? Also can you tell me how to pick her up properly? |
